Apa itu ‘Be’ Verbs ?
Bukan yang dimaksud di sini bukanlah lebah alias Bee, melainkan penggunaan kata kerja “Be” alias “to be“. Sebelum memulai, sebaiknya kita pahami dahulu apa yang dimaksud dengan ‘Be’ Verbs tersebut.
‘Be‘ Verbs atau juga dikenal dengan “To be” merupakan kata kerja yang mengindikasikan seseorang atau sesuatu atau mereka itu apa dan siapa, dan kondisinya seperti apa, dan juga bisa menjadi kata kerja pembantu pada kalimat pasif.
Tabel berikut akan menunjukkan penggunaan “to be” dalam masing-masing tenses:

Penggunaan Kata Kerja “Be’ atau “Be” Verbs
Kata kerja “be” atau “to be” bisa digunakan dalam pola kalimat sebagai berikut:
- Bersama dengan kata benda (nouns)
- My father is a doctor.
- SBY was the president of Indonesia.
- They are soldiers.
- Bersama dengan kata sifat (adjectives)
- This fried rice is very tasty
- The children were good
- Bersama dengan bentuk -ing untuk membentuk kalimat continuous
- We were walking down the road
- It had been raining for hours
- Bersama dengan akhiran -ed maupun bentuk past tense untuk membentuk kalimat pasif
- The house was built in 1945.
- The street is called Merdeka Barat Street.
- This car was made in Germany.
- Bersama dengan preposisi / prepositions
- Joko and his wife are from Malang.
- The hamburgers are on the table.
- Bersama dengan tambahan not untuk membentuk kalimat negatif
- I am not a doctor.
- He is not sleepy.
- We are not there.
- Apabila kalimat pertanyaan, maka “to be” akan berada di depan subjek
- Am I a doctor?
- Is he sleepy?
- Are we there?
- Beberapa pemakaian “to be” bisa digabung penulisan dengan subjek atau dengan not
- I am = I’m
- is not = isn’t
- was not = wasn’t
- are not = aren’t
- You are = you’re
- You are not = You’re not
- were not = weren’t
